SILVER SPRING, MD—The Wildlife Habitat Council (WHC) Board of Directors unanimously elected David W. Carroll as its new Board Chairman. The election took place during the Board's visit to Jacksonville, Florida, during which the Board members were given the opportunity to view WHC member sites and projects. He has served on the WHC Board of Directors since 2000 and previously as Secretary-Treasurer on the Executive Committee.

Since 1990, David Carroll has been in a variety of environmental management positions with Lafarge North America Inc. and is currently Vice President, Environment. He received a J.D. from Georgetown University and B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance and Commerce. He has a long, established 30-year career in the fields of environment and law, having previously worked for the American Chemistry Council (formerly the Chemical Manufacturers Association) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

"David Carroll is a visionary leader for achieving effective and efficient environmental management," said Bill Howard, President, Wildlife Habitat Council. "He sees and understands how business sustainability is inextricably linked with environmental responsibility. We are extremely pleased that he has agreed to extend his leadership as Chairman of our Board."

Lafarge's involvement with WHC began in 1992, under Carroll's leadership, exemplifying a long-standing dedication to enriching pre-existing habitat and establishing new habitat on its corporate landholdings. Projects already spearheaded by Lafarge range from native plantings, nest monitoring and education outreach to site reclamation, wetlands restoration and fish restocking. Currently, Lafarge has 15 certified and nearly 50 active programs involved with WHC across North America. Since 1990, WHC has certified 353 sites worldwide. The certification program recognizes outstanding wildlife habitat management and environmental education efforts at corporate sites, and provides third-party credibility and an objective evaluation of projects. www.wildlifehc.org/membersites/lafarge.cfm

More than 2 million acres in 48 states, Puerto Rico and 16 other countries are managed for wildlife through WHC-assisted projects. www.wildlifehc.org
